With reference to your Despatch No. 283 of the 23rd. October, I have the honour to enclose a report by Sergemt W.Pincott
regarding the action taken when Mr. Kleinjung passed through Hong-
-kong on the 28th. August last. The Captain Superintendent of Police
did not see your telegram of the 25th, August and my telegram of the
27th. August until after he had questioned Mr. Kleinjung. It happened
that on the morning on which Mr. Kleinjung arrived Kr. Lesser was at
Mountain Lodge seeing me, and did not arrive at the Central Police
Station until Mr. Kleinjung had been waiting about three quarters of
an hour. His bagage was not searched.
2. I enquired of the Consul-General at Shanghai as to the truth of the report in your cypher telegram of the 30th. October that Mr. Kleinj:ng had a great reception at Shanghai from the German Community, but Sir Everard Fraser informed me that he had not been able to obtain any confirmation of the report.
3. I enclose a copy of a report by the Cable Censor on the subject of the firm of Messrs. Gysi mnd Kleinjung, and the departure of Mr. Kleinjung under his new name of Andrew for England via Siberia on the 7th. December. The cable Censor also reports that Bickerton is a Merchant in Shan hai, and that Holgate is on the Shanghai White List.
